Chelsea signed Davide Zappacosta from Torino on transfer deadline day, and the 25-year-old is already beginning to hit headlines for the right reasons.
After Italy suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Spain last week, the new Chelsea signing was called up into the squad to face Israel and he didn’t disappoint.
Zappacosta started on the bench against Israel, and four minutes after coming on for Andrea Conti who was ineffective all through the game, Zappacosta linked up well with Antonio Candreva down the right and made a massive impact as Italy won the game 1-0.
Zappacosta has been earning the applauds of the Italian press following that encounter and La Gazzetta dello Sport said about him: “Antonio Candreva, who played on the same edge of Zappacosta, managed to create 7 goal chances in the second half, whilst he failed to create any sort of trouble in the previous 45 minutes when Andrea Conti was playing behind him on the right.”
