This must be the question throbbing the mind of every Chelsea supporter right now, myself inclusive. And there was a period the answer to this would have been a swift ‘yes’, but times have changed. Atletico Madrid have been one of our biggest nemesis in football in recent years.

Back in the years of Drogba, Terry, Ballack, and the rest of that golden team put together by Jose Mourinho, Chelsea was ruthlessly fearless in the Premier League and even by Europe’s elite teams. We played Atletico a couple of times, and we were mostly on the winning end.

In recent times, the story is different. While we are still a force to reckon with in world football, Atletico have since gotten even better as a team under the management of Diego Simeone. In the past 5 seasons in the Champions League, they have made it very far, and were close to winning it on two occasions against Bayern and Real Madrid respectively. They’re definitely a better team than previous years, and pose a greater threat to us more than ever.

We’ll be filing out against them on Wednesday in our second group fixture of the UCL, and could be 6 points to the good if we get a win. A loss will leave us stuck at 3 points, and in danger of settling for the second spot as three top teams in Chelsea, Roma and Atletico vie for the next round of the competition.

Apart from Atletico, there’s also Roma in our team, who are another strong side. We can’t afford any slip ups, and while a win boosts our qualification chances, a draw wouldn’t be off the cards. We have to play with that at the back of our minds, but hopefully, a win is the outcome.

Like I said, winning against Atletico is a difficult task, but I have belief that the lads can get the three points. Let us just hope that everything pans out as expected.

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
