Chelsea summer signing Davide Zappacosta has been handed an emergency call-up to the Italian national team and is now with the Italian squad some 72 hours after a deadline day move to Chelsea.
The right-back signed for the Blues on transfer deadline day, joining Chelsea from Torino for around £25million.
The call-up came unexpectedly as Italy have now been rocked with defensive crisis as Leonardo Bonucci picked up a yellow card in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Spain which means he is suspended for Tuesday’s match in Reggio Emilia in northern Italy. And Leonardo Spinazzola suffered an injury in the 3-0 defeat to Spain and Giorgio Chiellini was already absent from the squad.
The 25-year-old Chelsea man immediately flew to Italy after getting the call-up to begin training with the national side ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Israel on Tuesday.
