Chelsea Ladies advanced to the last 16 of the Women’s Champions League despite losing to a strong Bayern Munich side 2-1 away from home.

The Chelsea Ladies entered the game in good form having also defeated Liverpool in their last game and manager, Emma Hayes made no change to the side that had beaten Bayern a week ago.

With an advantage from the first leg after Chelsea’s 1-0 home victory, Fran Kirby opened the scoring and gave Chelsea a precious away goal but Bayern hit back with two goals of their own setting up an agonising final quarter-of-an-hour.

Chelsea had to hold on strong as the game finished 2-2 on aggregate with the Chelsea Ladies progressing to the next round.
