After Alvaro Morata’s injury against Manchester City, we never envisaged what was going to come the following week as N’Golo Kante who never gets injured suffered an injury while on international duty with France.
Antonio Conte only has just two fit central midfielders in Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas and that is just as risky as it could get, highlighting the need for the return of the injured Danny Drinkwater.
Drinkwater’s signing wasn’t that much applauded by the fans or the media as it wasn’t a high-profile signing, but his presence is now needed as much as possible.
Chelsea cannot rely solely on Fabregas and Bakayoko for the next couple of games, and with only the pair, Conte would be restricted in his tactics and selection process, especially if any of the pair is having a bad game or is off form.
The full extent of how long Kante will be out of action is yet to be determined, but if Kante is going to be out for some time then Conte is going to need Drinkwater back as soon as possible so that he can rotate his midfield, as Chelsea fight for four titles this season.
