England U17 have won their second group game of the tournament as they defeated Mexico 3-2 this afternoon.
Four Chelsea players started the game – Marc Guehi, Jon Panzo, George McEachran and Callum Hudson-Odoi , with Conor Gallagher among the subs, as they made it two wins from their opening two games.
In a keenly contested affair, England scored the opener six minutes before the break when Rhian Brewster curled a wonderful free-kick over the wall and into the back of the net.
Chelsea youngster Hudson-Odoi was taken off at half-time for Angel Gomes, and three minutes after the restart England extended their lead when the impressive Phil Foden displayed wonderful technique to score with a left-footed strike from just outside the box.
Jadon Sancho then made it 3-0 for England as he scored from the penalty spot, but two goals in the space of seven minutes, both scored by Diego Lainez, brought Mexico right back into the contest.
Gallagher was introduced with 17 minutes to play as England endured a nervy finish to the thrilling encounter.
