Former Chelsea player and coach Ray Wilkins believes Antonio Conte is playing David Luiz in the wrong position. According to Wilkins, Luiz should be played in midfield with Andreas Christensen playing as a centre-back.
“When we lost a player in the middle of the field for when we played Tottenham at Wembley, he put David Luiz into the middle of the pitch,” Wilkins told Sky Sports.
“I thought it was a fantastic decision, he played young (Andreas) Christiansen at centre-half.
“I would have done exactly the same on Saturday (against Crystal Palace) because unfortunately for me and it’s only my opinion, David Luiz isn’t a centre-half.
“He is a midfield player because he has a range of passing that is quite exceptional.
“Plus the fact if he just runs off like a loose cannon, then it can be saved, the situation can be saved.
“If he darts off playing like a loose cannon playing at the back, we are struggling.
“That’s what he does all the time.
“He gives the opposition one opportunity to score.”
Wilkins should be reminded that David Luiz was named in the PFA Team of the Year last season and he played in the centre of a back three.
