Chelsea are currently 4th on the table and are now six points behind the Manchester clubs in the race for the Premier League title, and for former Blue Ray Wilkins, Chelsea are missing Diego Costa, Nemanja Matic and legendary captain John Terry.

Costa and Matic were replaced with Alvaro Morata and Tiemoue Bakayoko, but Wilkins doesn’t think they can effectively replace the departed stars.

“I don’t think we are anywhere near as good as last year,” Wilkins told Sky Sports.

“We had the best forward (Costa) in the league last year.

“We had people at the club that you need at a football club, like John Terry.

“I don’t know why we didn’t offer John something around the club to keep that Chelsea business going on, I really don’t.

“Bakayoko is no Matic, not yet anyway. Matic is just superb. ‘I don’t think we are anywhere near what we were last year.”

Wilkins has probably forgotten that Morata is in good form and Bakayako has been amazing as well, and that Chelsea were also struggling worse than this by this time last season.

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
