The international games have been brought to a close and all focus will now return to club football, and it ended in a positive way for Chelsea players.
Thibaut Courtois, Michy Batshuayi and Eden Hazard started for Belgium against Cyprus and they were joined by Hazard’s younger brother and former Blue, Thorgan.
Eden Hazard was in remarkable form as Belgium brought their World Cup qualifying campaign to an end with a 4-0 win against Cyprus.
The Chelsea star scored a brace for his country, Courtois kept a clean sheet and Batshuayi, who scored for Belgium at the weekend started as well and came close to extending their advantage before the break but his strike flew just over the bar after he’d spun away from his marker, and seven minutes into the second half he was denied by a brilliant save.
Due to injury, N’Golo Kante didn’t feature in France’s 2-1 win over Belarus which ensured Didier Deschamps’s side progressed to the World Cup finals in Russia.
Marco van Ginkel was an unused sub for the Netherlands in their 2-0 win over Sweden, but it wasn’t enough for the Dutch who wouldn’t be part of the World Cup fiesta in Russia next year.
