Chelsea boss employed a 3-5-2 formation in the Champions League game against Atletico Madrid with N’Golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayako and Cesc Fabregas all in the midfield.
The formation was highly effective as Chelsea came from behind to win the game 2-1, and Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante has explained his role in that game which was his first ever Champions League experience.
He told the Chelsea magazine: “It’s my first season in the Champions League and I enjoy to play this kind of game.
“Against Atletico we had a really good game, we made a lot of chances, we deserved to score first, but they did, and we reacted very well to that to win the match.
“The manager changed my position. We played three midfielders and I needed to play a little bit further forward than my normal position, and I tried to traverse the attack of Atletico. It was a good game for the team.”
You’d recall that Kante was played in that same formation against Manchester City but it didn’t work out against Pep Guardiola’s men.
