Chelsea played in Europe on Wednesday away at Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, and the Blues won that game 2-1.
It was a very committed performance from the Chelsea players who then had to play against Manchester City, just three days after the game against Atletico.
Chelsea players looked lethargic in the 1-0 loss to Manchester City, and Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was asked in his press conference if fatigue was a reason for the loss.
He told the media: “About this issue, I have already spoken. To repeat the same opinion is not good. We could take this as an excuse, but for sure when you have to play another massive game only two days later you must consider the fatigue in the legs of your players. It’s impossible to go to press box to box. You have not energy to continue, to play this game.
“In this type of game and above all when you play against City or this type of team that like to have the ball, to have the possession, you have to consider two tactical aspects.
“You play and go very high to press and play a game with great intensity, but you must do this for the whole game. In another case you must be disciplined, try to close the space and then try to exploit the space behind the defenders.”
