The Chelsea melodramatic soap opera season continues to made the headlines in the media. After the chaotic display at the Eternal City of Rome in the Champions League, the pressure was on Conte’s Chelsea to masterfully win against rivals, Jose Mourinho and Manchester United. To our credit, the game was won without much fuss. Conte seemed vindicated, but what followed next was the explosion of an already timely bomb: ‘EMENALO RESIGNS FROM CHELSEA’.

The headline was a rifle aimed to shoot even the most logical Chelsea fan as to why the Nigerian took such a decision. In his own words told Chelsea TV: “This is not a knee-jerk reaction or decision.

“It is something I have been thinking about for quite some time now.

“Professionally there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this is a good time for me to step aside and let the club continue to move forward.

“The club is in good hands, an outstanding board of directors, a very generous owner, one of the best coaches in world football who I know from personal day-to-day interaction cares about his work and about the club”.

The Nigerian’s swashbuckling achievements are a testament to his abilities. The big question now is who replaces him at the club:

Here are 4 top football personalities that could be ideal for Chelsea:

Unarguably Chelsea’s most famous and loved ex-player. The iconic defender is still revered and idolised by the Chelsea faithful. His appointment to this role would not only make the fans happy, but will also sweeten the love relationship between the club and the fans. His knowledge of and love for the club are beautifully packaged attractions that makes him ideal for the position after his 21-year association with Chelsea. Also, this could be a path for Chelsea’s most successful Captain, Legend and Leader to one day fulfill his dream of coaching Chelsea when Conte eventually decides to step down.

The former Chelsea Coach is a firm fans favourite after twice steadying the ship at Chelsea during the dour free-fall reign of Luis Felipe Scolari in 2008/09 season and also in José Mourinho’s catastrophic third season in his second stint at the club in 2015/16. His admirable success feat of winning the FA Cup for Chelsea is one that endears him more to the heart of the Chelsea faithful. A man who has vast experience at both International and club level and still retains the trust of owner, Roman Abramovich,  will surely be an ideal candidate to fill the position vacated by Michael Emenalo.

Now working as a sports pundit after his retirement, Chelsea all-time leading goalscorer would surely be an ideal candidate for the job of the technical director. Like Terry, his fondness for the club is attractive, but his association with Manchester City after leaving the club might count against him. But in all, the midfielder did enough during his time at the club to warrant a shot at the job.

There is still life in Chelsea most revered striker watching his rise with the Phoenix. The Ivorian is adored by the Chelsea faithful and they owe him plaudits for the miracle at Munich in 2012. In all, his golden years as a Chelsea player makes him ideal as well as his strong affiliation with power brokers at the club. The time might just be right one to bring him back to the club to serve in a technical director role.

If Chelsea need restructuring, this might just be the time to bring in someone that is loved and revered by the fans and that would make the club greater than it is. Let’s hope for the best, Cheers!
