N’Golo Kante missed about a month’s action for Chelsea, in a period that saw the Blues lose to Crystal Palace and lose woefully to Roma in the Champions League.
His return coincided with a good victory against Manchester United in our last league game before the international break, and Chelsea captain Gary Cahill is happy to have the Frenchman back.
He hailed the quality of midfielders in the squad, as he told the official Chelsea website: “You look at different attributes players have and in that position it’s fantastic we have N’Golo, Baka and Danny Drinkwater because I think all three of them can cover the pitch and do the ugly side of the game, as well as the nice side.
He then highlighted Kante’s importance, saying: “It was great to have N’Golo back because he was the Premier League’s Player of the Year last season, so of course you’re going to miss someone like that. It also gives Cesc the freedom to play higher up the pitch and he’s one of the best creative midfielders I’ve ever played with in terms of his passing, he’s like a quarterback who can just pick balls out that he has no right to. So allowing him to do his work higher up the pitch has a positive effect and you saw that against Man United because he was brilliant.”
