Chelsea manager Antonio Conte used Cesc Fabregas sparingly last season as he preferred the midfield duo of Nemanja Matic and N’Golo Kante.

Fabregas was mostly used as a substitute last season, but has been a key player for Chelsea this season, having played almost every game for the Blues.

Conte has now revealed why the Spaniard has been key for him this season.

He said: “I have to make the best decision in every moment. I have to be current and honest, last season maybe he didn’t deserve to start the game.

“But now he is deserving to play regularly but at the same time I understand he needs a bit of rest. Now I have four midfielders who are in a good form.

“Cesc, N’Golo for many reasons are playing, but in pre-season we played them every game because Bakayoko was recovering from injury. I am very happy because Cesc is showing great commitment in both phases, with and without the ball.”

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
