Chelsea have embarked on their longest ever European journey as we face Qarabag this evening. Baku is almost a 5,000 mile round trip and Chelsea have a key Premier League game at the weekend against Liverpool.
Chelsea will only have a day’s rest to face Liverpool, much to the frustrations of Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.
However, Thibaut Courtois believes the team can cope with the demands of playing Liverpool, despite fears of a potential jet lag.
“It was good for us to leave yesterday [Monday] after training. It was a long flight, but we were lucky to be provided with a good plane. I had a good siesta,” Courtois said.
“We are staying on English hours, which is a good thing for Liverpool. It’s four hours’ difference. If we didn’t, we’d be tired with Liverpool in mind. So we’re okay. The training was good today, and we’ll be ready for tomorrow.
“Going to bed for 3am) Yes, for me it’s only 11pm. I think that’s a good thing because we play at 5.30pm in Liverpool. It’s the best way not to get disturbed.”
