Italian legend Andrea Pirlo announced his retirement this week following a stellar career that saw him have spells at seven clubs in Italy and the USA.
The former Juventus midfielder has been tipped to reunite with Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge, having played under the Chelsea boss for his country and at Juventus.
There has been speculations over Pirlo potentially heading to Stamford Bridge, and this has intensified this week in the wake of Michael Emenalo’s decision to quit his role as Chelsea technical director.
However, former Blue Mario Melchiot thinks the Italian could just be on his way to Chelsea.
“It has been rumored that Pirlo might join Conte at Chelsea as a coach,” Melchiot explained on his personal blog.
“I don’t know if they’re true, and he will probably want to take a break and spend time with his family back in Italy before making his next move.
“But here is to hoping that he could become part of the Blues setup!”
