Chelsea lost to Roma 3-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night, and the Blues have another tough test against Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes Chelsea will need to pack players in the midfield if they are to have any hope of beating his former club.

“I think that it affects the players,” Ferdinand said after the defeat to Roma.

“You’re talking about what effect it has, I think a player will know ‘I’m going in there in a two-man midfield against potentially three players who are very experienced and very good at keeping the ball and we’re going to be at a disadvantage from the word go’.

“I think that’s where he’s got to get that confidence back into the players.”

He then advised the Chelsea boss to use a similar formation like against Atletico Madrid.

“Thicken it up, Atletico Madrid he paid them a huge amount of respect,” Ferdinand added.

“You’ve got to see that on the weekend against Manchester United, I’m sure.”
