Chelsea were close to signing Everton midfielder Ross Barkley during the summer transfer window before the 23-year-old pulled out of the deal.

Reports claim Chelsea will renew their interest in Barkley when the transfer window reopens in January.

After a somewhat strange summer transfer window, reports claim the Blues are willing to spend big this winter with Everton expected to sell Barkley, as the midfielder is out of contract in the summer and therefore able to walk away for free.

Barkley is yet to play for the Toffees this season due to a hamstring injury.

There were claims that the England international was scared of playing second-fiddle in Chelsea’s star-studded midfield and thus turned back on joining the team.

Barkley has also denied he underwent a medical with Chelsea over the summer and said he would decide his future in January.
