The season might be done and dusted in terms of the Premier League title fight, with Manchester City in unimaginable form, but Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta isn’t giving up yet.
City are 11 points ahead of Manchester United in second, while Chelsea follow 14 points behind in second, and Azpilicueta has urged his teammates to maintain focus. The Chelsea vice-captain admits they will have to get even better to chase down City – because Pep Guardiola’s men have raised the bar.
He said: “It is true what they are doing is unbelievable. They are breaking records. In our last 10 games, we have won eight, drawn one and lost one.
“Yet we are still further behind than before those 10 games started!
“We have won two Premier Leagues in the last three years. Manchester City are playing very well, scoring a lot of goals and winning nearly every game.
“They are in a moment where everything goes well for them. They have put a high standard and we know every year is harder and harder and we will have to raise our level to try to fight for it.”
