“We know the difficulty of the next season and for sure we want to avoid the Mourinho season with Chelsea.” These were Conte’s words in a press conference at the start of the season. While Chelsea haven’t suffered a ‘Mourinho season’, we have been far from being vintage this season. At best, Chelsea have been a little above average and that’s why we are the third best team in the league. A major flaw into the new season was the manner of our transfer activity which very much incensed Conte.

Top targets were denied him with last minute deals to bring in like-for-like replacements a show of haphazardness. With Manchester City and Pep Guardiola conducting business in a more superior manner, it is not surprising they are getting good results.

Chelsea’s hierarchy will need to back Conte in the winter transfer window as it opens on Monday. The second half of our season will be largely dependent on it, especially with Chelsea still in the fight on four fronts for silverware. But if they fail to, it will likely leave Chelsea and Conte in a difficult position to really compete to win trophies.

Let’s hope for the best. Cheers!
