Chelsea Ladies beat Liverpool Ladies 5-1 progress to the semi-finals of the Continental Tyres Cup on Sunday afternoon.

The in-form Blues went into the game with wins from all four of our previous matches in the competition this term, which put us top of our five-team group.

Manager Emma Hayes had made five changes to the team which beat Tottenham Hotspur in our last outing earlier this month, and our ladies raced into a three-goal lead within 25 minutes of kick-off. Kirby slotted us in front with a cool finish after holding off Gemma Bonner and then two goals in the space of a minute – the first from Ramona Bachmann as she went round the keeper before slotting in and then another breakaway effort from Kirby.

Former Blues skipper Casey Stoney was the scorer of Liverpool’s only goal, heading home a corner kick in 51st minute.

We didn’t have to wait long for a fourth, and once again it was the Bachmann-Kirby combination that provided it to complete a Bachmann hatrick.

69th minute substitute Erin Cuthbert found the net less than ten minutes later, as she fashioned a yard of space for herself on the edge of the box and curled an exquisite effort into the far corner.

The Chelsea Ladies carried the day to go through to the semifinals of the Continental Tyres Cup.
