The stage was set for the quarterfinal clash between Chelsea and Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge. The game lived up to its billing as the tricky one. Both teams despite resting a couple of first-team players were entertaining and adventurous. At the end Chelsea narrowly edged it 2-1.
Here are 3 talking points from the game:
CHELSEA MAKE IT THROUGH TO THE SEMIFINALS:
The Londoners are big game players, but going into the game Chelsea fans might have feared that a repeat of last season’s defeat to West Ham might be on the cards against Bournemouth. More worryingly, Conte’s record in cup competitions didn’t give a glimmer of hope. Goals from the impressive Willian and super Morata banished all negative thoughts and odds to send Chelsea to the Carabao Cup semifinals. Just one hurdle away from the finals and another from lifting the cup. Good work lads!
WILLIAN IMPRESSES AGAIN:
The early season criticism of the Brazilian’s form made the headline as he often appeared head and heart away from Chelsea. But in recent weeks, Willian looks a player reborn and with another impressive performance against the Cherries, the Brazilian is surely giving Conte some food for thoughts in his team selection and transfer business for the winter market. Surely the Brazilian has done enough to reclaim a place in the first team.
MORATA BREAKS THE CHERRIES HEART:
What better way to announce your return from injury than score the winner for your team? Alvaro Morata did just that to send Chelsea fans into ecstasy. His goal came just 75 seconds after Dan Gosling had levelled up the score for the dogged Bournemouth side who eventually crashed out cruelly.
In all it’s a Blue day for Chelsea. Let’s keep the Blue flag flying high. Cheers!
