Kick-off: Tuesday, December 5, 2017. 19:45 GMT
Venue: Stamford Bridge
It’s the final group round of matches in the Champions League 2017/18 campaign, and Chelsea are among the teams to have made it to the round of 16, despite a game at hand.
Chelsea top the group with 10 points, Roma are second with 8 points, while Atletico are third with 6 points and Qarabag only have 2 points.
Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid have not been inspiring, to the surprise of many and having recorded just one win from their five group games. They must beat Chelsea to have any hope of going through to the next round, pending Roma’s game against Qarabag. Though they have lost just once – which came in the reverse fixture, they have drawn their other games. This leaves Atleti in third place and anything other than a win will see them play Europa League football.
Diego Simeone’s men are on an unbeaten run in La Liga just six points behind leaders Barcelona, and Chelsea fresh off defeating Newcastle 3-1 on Saturday are also unbeaten in their last six games in all competitions.
My prediction: I don’t see Atletico taking the three points at Stamford Bridge. The least Chelsea will get in this game is a draw.
