Another three points in the bag as Chelsea put in a good display to defeat the Saints 1-0, and it should have been more.
See how the players are rated from the game:
Courtois: Made a great save to deny Charlie Austin and was efficient. Did well to keep a clean sheet. 7.5/10
Azpilicueta: Solid and reliable yet again at the back and helped the defence keep a clean sheet. 7.5/10
Christensen: Had a good game marking Gabbiadini, but lost concentration for a split second that almost allowed substitute Charlie Austin to score.7/10
Cahill: Solid display from the captain at the back as the defence will be happy with the clean sheet. 7/10
Moses: Had a busy battle with Ryan Bertrand, but he won more battles than the former Chelsea left-back. 7/10
Bakayoko: Started ahead of Cesc Fabregas after a much improved showing against Huddersfield, and he had a good game. 7/10
Kante: Had a good game and did what he knows how to do best – stopping opposition play. However, he made a mistake early in the game as his misplaced pass almost cost the team. 7/10
Alonso: Went forward at every opportunity and troubled Southampton’s right flank. Eased the tension around the stadium with a delightful freekick that beat Frasier Forster right on the stroke of half-time. 8/10
Willian: Had a good game and showed some nice movement alongside Hazard and Pedro. 7/10
Pedro: Caused Southampton problems with his movement as he relished playing in Chelsea’s fluid front three. Unlucky not to get on the scoresheet with an effort that hit the post in the first-half. 7/10
Hazard: Played again as a false nine in Alvaro Morata’s absence and was always a threat when picking up the ball and turning at the Saints defence. Had a delightful goal correctly ruled out for offside after the break. 7/10
Subs
Fabregas: Replaced Morata to play the last twenty minutes of the game, and he was a delight to watch. Brought more creativity to the Chelsea midfield which led to a more fluid attack.
Morata: Came on for Hazard late in the game, and was lively. 6/10
Zappacosta: Replaced Moses with less than 10 minutes to go.
