Michy Batshuayi is set to start today’s Carabao Cup game against Bournemouth.
Batshuayi has started just five games for Chelsea in all competitions this season, the last of which came in Chelsea’s 2-1 EFL Cup victory over Everton in October.
Conte has pointed out that the 24-year-old needs to prove himself if he must overtake Alvaro Morata as the club’s leading striker.
“Michy is coming from an injury,” Conte pointed out in his pre-match press conference. “He stopped for two weeks. He needed to work and to find the best physical condition. Now he is okay to start the game against Bournemouth.
“In every game I have to make the best decision for the team. Against Huddersfield we won 3-1 and I think I made the best decision. It was the same against Southampton. We have won every game I started with Hazard, Pedro and Willian. It was the same last season.
“Don’t forget Michy is playing more this season than last season. But he has to show me he is better than Morata or Hazard. It’s very simple.
“Michy is a young player. He has to work very hard to improve himself, and he is doing this. I am happy with his behaviour and his commitment.”
