Fernando Torres’ return to Stamford Bridge didn’t go as planned, as his team could only get a point and are now out of the Champions League after finishing in third position.
Torres lasted for about an hour in last night’s game and insists Chelsea’s fans will ‘always have a place in his heart’ after making his return to Stamford Bridge.
The 33-year-old spent nearly four years in west London following his £50million move from Liverpool. While Torres’ move to Stamford Bridge didn’t end up as planned as he struggled to get the goals, he will always be remembered for the role he played in Chelsea’s Champions League winning success in 2012 and for scoring in the 2013 Europa League final victory over Benfica.
Torres was taken off shortly before the hour mark and was well-regarded by the Chelsea fans.
Despite the hurt or a Champions League exit, he still found time to write a message of thanks to the Chelsea fans. He wrote on Twitter: “It did not happen, but we will keep on fighting. Thanks to the Stamford Bridge fans for their support, you will be forever in my heart.”
