It finished 2-2 in an exciting London derby as Arsenal and Chelsea shared the spoils.
Here are 3 match talking points:
MORATA PROFLIGACY COSTS CHELSEA:
The headliner of the game rests: ‘Morata misses cost Chelsea all three points’. The warning sign was obvious as the Spanish striker’s similar goal shyness was glaring in the previous game against Stoke City when his failings to brutally punish the Potters for a lacklustre performance at the Bridge was only saved by the 5-0 emphatic scoreline, all thanks to his teammates on the score sheet. Again against Arsenal, the striker missed three good one on one chances that would have put Chelsea out of sight before Arsenal’s leveller. The striker’s failings diminished Chelsea’s chances of winning the game and leapfrogging United into second place.
CHELSEA’S CHARACTER AND FIGHTING SPIRIT STILL ALIVE:
The character displayed by the team against Arsenal when a goal down and when the Gunners seized momentum is applaudable. The fighting spirit to score the equalizer and then take the lead through the double acts of Eden Hazard and Marcos Alonso is admirable and should be a strong threshold for the remainder of the season. Chelsea are a club that thrives in adversity and when the odds are against us and the manner of the team’s response should please Conte despite conceding a late goal.
CONCEDING LATE GOALS/BIG GAME POWER PLAY:
Chelsea have always been the team to beat when it comes to playing against the big teams and supposed rivals for trophies. Our record this season with just two wins, one defeat and three draws from six games making a total of 9 points from 18 reads average. Everyone expects us to beat the smaller breaks, but winning games against your direct rivals gives the winning edge in the run-in. Chelsea need to improve in this regard and in seeing off games to avoid conceding late goals.
Let’s hope for the best. Cheers!
