Chelsea’s giant strides in the FA Cup continued with a big win against Newcastle United.

Here are 3 match talking points:

CHELSEA STILL IN CONTENTION FOR FA CUP:

After our league cup semifinal defeat to Arsenal, the stark reality for Chelsea and Conte going into the FA Cup tie against Newcastle United is that the competition is the most likely route to winning silverware this season. Response from the league cup defeat to the Gunners was paramount and the team remarkably delivered in style. Chelsea showed that they were a bridge too far for Rafa Benitez’s team with a bashing 3-0 win that sees us advance into the next round.

BATSHUAYI GIVES CHELSEA SECOND THOUGHT WITH GOAL-SCORING PERFORMANCE:

The much-maligned striker hasn’t been quite convincing enough with his performances in a blue shirt for Antonio Conte. While the striker is a fine finisher, his linkup play, positional play, holdup play and work rare have always been in question as he has looked abject on numerous occasions. Morata’s absence through injury has seen him start a few games, but against Newcastle, the Belgian striker was superb. Two goals to his credit and an overall good performance could have Chelsea and Conte having second thoughts about sending him out on loan or buying Edin Dzeko from Roma.

WINGBACKS PLAY BEAUTIFUL GAME:

When Chelsea bought Marcos Alonso and Davide Zappacosta, they were average players. Most fans were unsure about them. Remarkably, both players have upped their game and have improved their playing power superbly. Zappacosta’s runs, crosses and incisive passes from right-wing back against Newcastle was admirable, while Marcos Alonso’s dribbles, runs and positional play from left-wingback was rewarded with a goal and an assist. Beautiful performances from both players.

Good team performance. Let’s keep the blue flag flying high. Cheers!
