Chelsea aren’t known to be a club that promotes from within despite producing young talented players from our world-class academy. We have lost players like Dominic Solanke, Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku etc due to our reluctance to give youth a chance.

The emergence of Andreas Christensen this season is definitely a plus for the Academy.

Virgil van Dijk joined Liverpool during the winter transfer window for a fee of £75 million and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte revealed the Blues were interested in the Dutch defender.

“This is football. This is life,” Conte said of Van Dijk moving to Liverpool.

“For sure he was our target but as you know this is football. We can have a lot of targets but you must be able to reach those targets. The transfer market is not simple for any club.”

Christensen has shown with his performances this season that he is as good as Van Dijk (if not better) and Chelsea have saved £75 million by promoting Christensen to the first team to boost our back line.

I believe Chelsea should go for the best players available in the market or promote from the Academy. We shouldn’t just sign players for the sake of signing.

Christensen’s performances this season have proved our youngsters can excel at Chelsea if given the chance.

  1. This is definitely a good deal and another reason Chelsea need to keep faith with Antonio Conte, because not many coaches can do what he did to bribe Andreas Christensen into the team at the expense of a player like Dadid Luiz. Good one CFC!
