Contrary to reports that claimed Chelsea submitted a late bid for Sanchez this January, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte insists Chelsea did not enter a bidding war for Sanchez this month.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte revealed Chelsea were never in the race for Sanchez because of the salary demands of the Chilean international.
“We never were in this race (for Sanchez), ever. Only one or two clubs can pay this type of salary. United can do it and they have paid it,” Conte said.
“If you want Neymar you must be ready to give him £25m. If you want Messi or Ronaldo, the same. Now Sanchez, the same. You must be ready to pay his salary.
“If you want the best you have to spend a lot of money. Otherwise you go in the middle and spend £20-30m. It is not negative. It is the truth.
“If a player earns a lot of money it is because he is the best. Every player has to understand his level.”
