Chelsea completed the signing of Ross Barkley on Friday, with the 24-year-old moving to Stamford Bridge for a fee of £15 million.
Barkley plays a similar role to Chelsea academy product Ruben Loftus-Cheek who is currently on loan with Crystal Palace.
With fears that Barkley’s move to Chelsea could spell the end of Loftus-Cheek’s career at Chelsea, reports claim Chelsea have moved to assure Loftus-Cheek that he has a future at the club despite the arrival of Barkley.
According to the Daily Mail, Loftus-Cheek was informed about the Barkley deal and that it wouldn’t affect his long-term position in Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old has excelled at Selhurst Park, so much so he was called up to the last England squad and impressed on his debut against Germany.
Palace boss Roy Hodgson even has hopes his club could sign Loftus-Cheek as he has revealed he’s impressed with the Chelsea youngster.
“The way Ruben has been playing for us, he is a player we would like to have at our club,” Eagles manager Roy Hodgson has said.
“We are very impressed with him, and delighted with the way he has developed as a player during his time here. I am pretty sure if he were available for sale, we would be in there with our hands up as a potential buyer. But it could well be that Chelsea would want both Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in their team. I wouldn’t mind both of them in my team.”
