Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek who’s currently on loan to Crystal Palace has suffered a massive blow with his ankle injury worse than first feared.
The Chelsea youngster hasn’t featured for Palace since December 28, and he may be in need of surgery to solve the problem.
The 21-year-old has impressed so far in his season-long loan deal at Selhurst Park and he was rewarded for his fine form with a call-up to the England squad for the friendlies against Germany and Brazil in November, where he won the man of the match award after an excellent display against Germany.
England boss Roy Hodgson has admitted that the 21-year-old could be a doubt for the World Cup in Russia in the summer.
“The injury is more severe than we originally thought it would be,” said Hodgson.
“I would be very disappointed, surgery or no surgery, if he’s not playing before the end of the season.
“We certainly want him to be and I would presume Chelsea would want him to be because they might like to have a player who’s going to be selected for England in their squad but there’s literally nothing we can do about it.
“The only way he can make himself available for Crystal Palace or England is to be fit and at the moment that isn’t the case.”
