There used to be days when the average age of a Chelsea side was around 29/30, but these days, it’s a lot lower than that. Signings have been focused on younger players in order to build towards the future. But there’s always an exception to a trend or rule, especially if there seems to be no other viable choice.
Edin Dzeko is a reported interest for Chelsea in this transfer window, and even at 30, it’s not so hard to see why the Bosnian isn’t a bad choice after all. He’s already scored 12 goals for Roma this season, and has a lot of experience in the Premier League having played for rivals, Manchester City for some years before his departure. Apart from his obvious understanding of the way the league works, Dzeko also has a very good eye for goal, and isn’t prone to injuries like many. This makes him a good addition to any side.
Andy Carroll was touted as a possible replacement for loan-bound Michy Batshuayi, but with his knack for injury, I wasn’t sure how he’d fare at Chelsea, and as if I was right, he was declared out for 4 weeks at least. Yes, Carroll scores goals on his days, but he’s nothing compared to Dzeko, and with the Bosnian, we’re guaranteed good return on goals. I also think we shouldn’t be afraid to invest in top talents in all areas of the pitch. City have two deadly strikers in Gabriel Jesus and Kun Aguero, why can’t we?
This game is a big competition. Only those who prepare well win always.
