Former Arsenal defender Paul Merson believes Antonio Conte’s decision to sell Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic during the summer has cost Chelsea this season.

“Chelsea reigned supreme last season but no sooner had they won the title, they were dismantling their team by allowing Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic to leave,” Merson told Daily Mail via Metro UK.

“Conte must regret the decision to let those two go every day.”

Do you agree with Merson? Was Conte wrong to sell Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic?

  1. Conte can only be held responsible for Costa departure but Mario should be blame for Matic’s exit.
Things are in shambles at present due to power tussle between the duo and it’s affecting the club’s progress.

Far from it. Even Costa’s first game at Atletico came with a red. Costa is becoming a distraction to the team his talent not withstanding.
