Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois wasn’t happy with the jeers from Chelsea fans after the final whistle following Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Leicester City on Saturday.
Players expect the fans to stick with the team irrespective of the result but this isn’t a statement some fans agree with.
I understand Courtois’ frustration at fans booing the players but he should also understand the frustration of the fans after the team’s lacklustre performance against Leicester City. Chelsea were second-best for most parts of the game and only improved after Leicester left back Ben Chilwell got sent off in the 68th minute.
Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Leicester City was our third consecutive goalless draw and it is the first time in Chelsea’s proud history this is happening.
Truth be told, Chelsea were fortunate to not get beaten by Leicester City on Saturday. Leicester were more intelligent, more diligent and far more spirited.
Chelsea fans were obviously frustrated by the dominance of Leicester City and Chelsea’s lacklustre performance.
Fans understand the team can’t win every match but they expect the players to put in a shift not the lethargic attitude on display against Leicester City. The fans came to the stadium to be entertained and the players need to give the fans something to cheer about.
Win, lose or draw, Chelsea fans will always stick with the team.
Chelsea fans were wrong to boo the team after the final whistle but Courtois was also wrong to question the fans for booing the team after the poor display from his teammates.
