Chelsea left wingback Marcos Alonso missed Chelsea’s 3-0 win over West Brom on Monday night. It was the second game in a row the Spaniard had failed to play for Chelsea after missing Chelsea’s 4-1 loss at Watford.
Speaking before Chelsea’s win over West Brom, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte revealed Alonso suffered a fresh injury blow in training which ruled him out of Chelsea’s Premier League clash against West Brom.
“Alonso in training on Saturday twisted his ankle. He has this injury and for this reason today he is not playing,” Conte told Sky Sports.
Chelsea captain Gary Cahill dropped to the bench for the game against West Brom and Conte also explained why he took the decision not to start Cahill.
Conte added: “And then as you know very well, a lot of times I change Gary [Cahill] for [Antonio] Rudiger and I think the defenders we have give us different options to pick the best solution, and in this case I decided to take this decision.”
