What a week it’s been for Chelsea and Antonio Conte. Consecutive defeats have left the Champions feeling blue and in a precarious position. First, a 3-0 home drubbing by Bournemouth, then followed a 4-1 defeat at Watford with poor performances and results by all standards and certainly it’s midnight at dawn for Chelsea at the moment.

One major subplot of Chelsea season has been the abject form of French midfielder, Tiemuoe Bakayoko. The Player was bought as a direct replacement for the departed Nemanja Matic. Despite having the potentials to become an imposing midfield general, he has failed to show why Chelsea were willing to sell the Serbian and pay £40m to Monaco.

His inability to adjust to the demands of the English game has been his undoing. Poor defensive nous, lack of incisive and precise passing, poor tackling and marking skills, little show of technical ability are a few of his familiar failings. All of these were exposed against both Bournemouth and Watford. His costly mistakes finally cost Chelsea six points from both games and worst of it all, he was red carded against Watford to add salt to injury.

Conte might just rue his decision to keep faith in the player who failed to repay him back with good performances. Bakayoko’s below-par performances might just be the shot that fires Conte from the Chelsea job.

Let’s hope for the best.
