Olivier Giroud moved to Stamford Bridge last month from Arsenal in a £15million deal and grabbed an assist in his first start in Morata’s absence during a 3-1 win over West Brom.
With Alvaro Morata back from injury that kept him out of action for a month, Antonio Conte has hailed the addition of Giroud for adding much-needed competition in the striking role, while he believes Morata has responded well to his new team-mate’s arrival.
When asked if Morata had benefitted from Giroud’s arrival, Conte said: “I don’t know. I think Alvaro is a player with a good responsibility and maturity.
“The competition is good, good for the team. I think a great team must have competition in every position, in every role.
“For us, Giroud is a good option. He’s very strong, powerful player and he can help us for the rest of the season.”
