Chelsea and Barcelona will face off in the Champions League second round later this month, and there’s uncertainty if Antonio Conte will be the man in the dugout come February 20.

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has come to the defence of under fire manager Antonio Conte, as he offers a timely reminder that it was the Italian who led Chelsea to the Premier League title just nine months ago.

Conte led Chelsea to 30 wins out of 38 games as the Blues ran out league winners in his first season at the club. However, things have turned sour as back to three margin defeats against lowly Bournemouth and Watford has put Conte’s job on the line.

Valverde said: “Chelsea’s head coach is the one who led them to win the Premier League title last year, he’s won many titles, and he’s had a great career.”

Asked about the speculation linking former Barca manager Enrique with the Chelsea job, Valverde added: “You are making a big prediction, because at the moment nothing has happened.

“Do you want me to tell you what’s going to happen in the future? Or about your prediction? At the moment there is no changes so far.”
