Chelsea’s development squad won Leicester City’s U23 team 1-0 at on Friday night. Leicester City, who are second in the table, have been unbeaten since September.
The win sees Chelsea move eight points off danger. Tottenham U23 and Manchester United U23 are bottom of the Premier League 2 division one.
Joe Edwards made four changes to the team that lost to Everton on Monday with goalkeeper Marcin Bulka and defenders Richard Nartey, Dujon Sterling and Juan Castillo all returning to the team.
The development squad started with a 3-4-2-1 system but Edwards made a tactical tweak at the break, switching to a back four and moving Sterling higher on the right after a difficult first half.
The changes paid instant dividends as the Blues started the second half on the front foot with 17-year-old Daishawn Redan scoring the only goal of the game in the 52nd minute.
The points move Chelsea’s Development Squad up a place to seventh and provide a timely confidence boost ahead of next week’s Checkatrade Trophy semi-final away at Lincoln City.
