Alvaro Morata was snubbed by Spain boss Julen Lopetegui for the latest international round of games.

A lack of form saw him miss out on Lopetegui’s latest squad for friendlies against Germany and Argentina.

Morata was yet to score a goal this calendar year until Chelsea’s FA Cup win at Leicester City and Spain debutant Marcos Alonso has backed his compatriot to finish the season strongly.

“He has had a little problem with his back, but he has already recovered”, he told Marca.

“He will be key for Chelsea in these next months.

“He is an important player in the national team and Lopetegui will have to decide.”
