Marcos Alonso had never represented his national team, neither has he been called up to represent Spain on international duty.
The Chelsea left wing-back has been named in the Spain squad for the first time ahead of their upcoming friendly matches against Germany and Argentina scheduled for the forthcoming international break.
Alonso represented Spain at both Under-19 and Under-18 level earlier in his career, is yet to play for the senior and hasn’t been invited despite his scintillating form for Chelsea as the Blues won the league last season.
He has continued his fine form this season, and Spain boss Julen Lopetegui has finally given the 26-year-old a call-up.
Cesar Azpilicueta has also been named in the 24-man Spain squad.
