It was déjà vu yet again for Michael Ballack who was disappointed with referee Damir Skomina for failing to award Chelsea a penalty in the 3-0 defeat to Barcelona.
With Barcelona 2-0 up, Chelsea thought they had been awarded a penalty when Gerard Pique appeared to bring down Marcos Alonso in the area. However, Skomina waved play on – much to the dismay of the Chelsea bench who protested with the fourth official.
Ballack took to Twitter almost instantly to criticise the referee in reference to Chelsea’s semi-final defeat against Barcelona in 2009 where Tom Ovebro denied Chelsea up to four penalty appeals.
