Chelsea manager Antonio Conte took off Eden Hazard in the game against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Conte took off the Belgian and brought on Pedro on the 73rd minute, and with the game still at 1-1. There was a large outcry from Chelsea fans and pundits due to Conte’s substitution, and even Thibaut Courtois questioned the manager’s tactics after the game.
Chelsea legend Dennis Wise has urged Courtois to avoid questioning Conte’s tactical decisions in future, saying it’s the manager’s decision to make.
“It’s not Courtois’ place to be saying that to be honest,” Wise said on beIN Sports.
“That’s the manager’s decision – if he makes that decision he makes it and everyone deals with it and gets on with it.”
Chelsea have had a frustrating season so far which has put Conte’s future in doubt, but Wise believes Conte has the backing of the players.
“I think the players are behind him, I just think that certain circumstances haven’t gone as well as they should have done,” he said.
“You can’t account for individual mistakes…these things happen. You can set your team out to play in a certain way and understand what you want and they understand what you want to do.
“But you can’t account for an individual mistake or a team playing better than you on the day.”
