Chelsea deservedly beat bogey side Crystal Palace 2-1 at home to close gap on our top rivals in the running for Champions league qualification.
Here are 3 match talking points:
CHELSEA GIVE SUPERB PERFORMANCE:
Much of last weekend’s defeat was centered on our lifeless display against Manchester City. A submissive and ultra-defensive display which irked the football world and drew strong criticisms from all corners. Obviously we needed to win and perform in the next league game against Crystal Palace. Chelsea’s response was fantastic and the team played free-flowing attacking football carving out the Palace defence with numerous chances that would have put us out of sight. Despite a nervy ending to the game, our dominance in the game is not reflected by close scoreline. Good performance.
DEFENSIVE ISSUES STILL A CONCERN:
Despite our superb performance against Crystal Palace, defensive issue is still a concern for Chelsea. Palace halftime introduction of key player, Wilfred Zaha changed the dynamics of the game. The Eagles threatened to get back into the game with some juicy scrappy chances. Though they scored late on, there was always a feeling they would score. We surely need to be durable in defence with the Barcelona test to come.
WILLIAN PROVING WORTH TO CHELSEA:
Five goals in his last five games, seven assists and thirteen goals for this season to better his best rally for Chelsea in a single season. Such is the form of the Brazilian playmaker that right now he is so indispensable for Chelsea and Conte. Obviously, with Pedro struggling for form, Morata looking out of sorts and Hazard overworked for creativity, Willian’s return to his best form is a shimming light for both the player and the club.
Let’s keep the blue flag flying high. Cheers!
