Chelsea have beaten Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Crewe Alexandra wonderkid striker George Nunn.
The teenage sensation rejected a deal to stay with the League Two side as he attracted interest from the Premier League’s top clubs including Tottenham.
After some promising performances in Crewe’s Under-16 side, the 16-year-old striker has now been snapped up by Chelsea.
Crewe will pocket around £300,000 in compensation from the Blues for the youngster and he will continue his development at Stamford Bridge, according to the Sun.
Nunn banged in more than 20 goals before being promoted to the U18 team and he scored a double from the bench on his debut for their U18s.
Nunn, who has changed his Facebook profile to say ‘Striker at Chelsea Football Club’, had long been earmarked as an academy player with true star potential.
Manager David Artell said he was unaware of the situation on Monday afternoon.
He said: “I assure you, I don’t know. I wasn’t in the academy meeting this morning, but if that’s the case then good luck to him, I wish him all the best. I hope it works out for him.
“George, I’m fairly confident, would have played in our first team but there’s no guarantee. If he’s decided to move then good luck to him.
“That’s what Chelsea do, it’s their business plan. Good luck to them.”
