According to a report on Metro UK, Chelsea players were annoyed by Antonio Conte’s decision to seek out Lionel Messi after the defeat to Barcelona.
Immediately after Chelsea’s 3-0 loss to Barcelona on Wednesday, Conte approached Messi and hugged the Argentine.
Messi played an instrumental role in Barcelona’s victory over Chelsea as he scored twice, while he also assisted Ousmane Dembele’s goal.
Conte even went up to speak to Messi for a second time before leaving the pitch and the report on Metro claims Chelsea’s players were annoyed by Conte’s decision to walk on to the pitch to embrace Messi while his players applauded the Chelsea fans before heading back to the dressing room.
Speaking after the loss to Barcelona, Conte said this about his decision to walk up to Messi: “When you have the opportunity to make a great compliment to Messi, it is right to recognise a super, super, super top player.
“You are talking about a player who every season can score 60 goals, not just in one season.
“I am very pleased to have the opportunity at the end of the game to give him my compliment.
“We are talking about an extraordinary player, the best in the world.”
