Spain boss Julen Lopetegui failed to hand call-up to Alvaro Morata for Spain’s upcoming friendlies against Germany and Argentina later this month.
Morata has been overlooked by Lopetegui who insists the Chelsea striker is still in contention for Spain’s World Cup campaign after the forward was dropped from their latest squad
“Morata has been with us almost always,” said Lopetegui.
“He has had a series of physical problems, he has had an inactivity, and he’s not playing much.
“He does not stop being out of our thoughts at all, let’s hope he has more prominence at Chelsea.
“Tomorrow is not the World Cup. ‘There are players who are not on the list and have intact options to go to the World Cup.
“We are facing two exciting games and from there everyone will have open options.
“The fact that they do not come is due to nuances, shape states, injuries and also to see new players to have better information.”
Pedro was also dropped from the squad for the second time in a row, while Cesar Azpilicueta was handed a call-up and Marcos Alonso got his first ever call-up.
