Alvaro Morata broke out of a slump on Sunday, to score his first goal of 2018 in a 2-1 win over Leicester City that sent Chelsea to the FA Cup semi-finals.

After a good start to his Chelsea career, the Spaniard has struggled in his second season and has to wait three months for his first goal of the year.

His poor form for Chelsea has cost him his place in the Spain national team, but Spanish boss Julen Lopetegui has given the Chelsea striker a lifeline, urging him to return back to form so he won’t miss the World Cup party in Russia this summer.

“Of course Morata has a lot of possibilities to go to the World Cup and he knows it,” he told El Partidazo de COPE on Monday.

“He has to show these months the player he is inside.”

He has scored 13 goals in 39 games for Chelsea this season.
