It’s already March. In a few days, it’s April, and then May, when the season comes to an end. And no league season comes and goes without us taking a look at the standout performer at Chelsea.

Last season, it was a close call between Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kanté, with the latter deservedly edging out the former.

This season has been very different from the previous for Chelsea in that while we won the league last season, we’re struggling to stay afloat this term, and there isn’t a player that has particularly exceeded or lived up to expectations.

Eden Hazard is usually the man we expect to win this accolade, but he hasn’t been the same man he was last season, which we can understand considering he wasn’t fit from the start, and he has had some good spells this season. He has scored some wonderful goals, and won games, but like I said, nothing exactly ‘Hazardesque’. So I don’t think he’s quite worthy of the title this season.

Kanté has been decent in the middle for us, like he was last season. He has again, proven to be perhaps the best holding player in the world for the third season in a row, so he’s definitely worth a mention. But does he deserve to be named ‘Player of the Season’?

Willian definitely is worth considering too. His rise to his current level is very phenomenal. Talent for him, was never in doubt, but the way he’s used it this season is very admirable. Willian has won us games in more ways than one. He has also outshone Hazard to some level this season. Hazard may be an overall better player, but Willian has shone more this season. The Barcelona game will be remembered as one of his finest in a ‘Blues’ shirt.

Finally, Andreas Christensen is another player that has shocked a lot of us. No one quite knew he was that good until he got the chance to prove himself. He has done it, and very well. It’s not every player that can bench David Luiz; Christensen has done it, and I think he deserves to be appreciated more. While other defenders like Gary Cahill and Antonio Rudiger have struggled to get playing time at some point, Christensen is an automatic starter. So he has come a long way from when he started, and is worth considering for this accolade.

So who do you think deserves to be crowned king come the end of the season for Chelsea? Share your thoughts via the comments box!

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
